Transport to Oral Surgery and Dental Appointments when you have Limited Mobility: Getting There Safely

Aurevia Patient Transfers | Non-Emergency Medical Transport in Toronto & GTA
Dental care is often the first thing to slip when getting out of the house becomes difficult. A cracked tooth or sore gums can go untreated for months because the trip to the dentist feels impossible. For older adults especially, that delay matters. Oral health affects eating, comfort, sleep and overall health.
Some dental care can come to your loved one. Toronto Public Health, for example, runs mobile dental vans for residents of City-operated long-term care homes. Many treatments, though, still need a dental office, an oral surgeon or a hospital dental clinic. That's where transport becomes the deciding factor.

When transport becomes the obstacle
Stretcher transport is the right fit for a dental appointment when your loved one:
can't move from a bed or wheelchair into a car without hands-on help
can't sit upright for the drive
lives in a long-term care home or retirement residence and has no family free that day
is having an extraction or oral surgery under sedation and will be drowsy afterward
has stairs at home, or the dental office is up a flight of stairs
How we help patients and families
Two trained crew members collect your loved one from their bed or room and bring them right to the office's front desk on time.
Tell us when you book whether your loved one will be treated in the dental chair or will stay on the stretcher, if the dental team has told you. That way the crew can plan the transfer with the dental staff before arrival.
For most visits, especially those involving sedation, we recommend Reserved Treat & Return. The crew and vehicle stay reserved for your loved one through the treatment and recovery, so there's a guaranteed ride home as soon as the dental team is ready. If family will bring your loved one home afterward, a One-Way Transfer to the appointment is also an option.
If sedation is involved, ask the office whether they will release your loved one to a professional transport crew, and whether someone needs to stay with them afterward. Our crew brings them home and hands over to family or residence staff, who take it from there.
How we help dental offices and oral surgeons
Many dental offices aren't set up for patients who can't walk in. Plaza units with steps, narrow hallways and tight treatment rooms all make it harder. When a patient can't get there, the appointment is cancelled and the treatment waits.
Aurevia gives your team a dependable option to offer patients with limited mobility, including long-term care and retirement home residents. For your office, that means:
patients arrive at the booked time, with stairs at your building handled by our crew
a crew that coordinates the transfer into your treatment space with your staff
a check-in with your team before the patient leaves
written post-treatment instructions handed to whoever receives the patient
