Airport Stretcher Transfers in Toronto and Across Ontario
Flying home after a hospital stay, or leaving for care somewhere else?
The ground part of the journey is where most of the stress sits: finding the right door, getting through check-in and security, and reaching the aircraft on time. We plan that part with you, and we stay with your loved one through all of it.

Coming home
Your loved one lands after a hospital stay in another province or abroad. We are there when the flight arrives, meet them at the agreed handover point and bring them bed-to-bed to home, a hospital or a care residence.
Heading out
Your loved one is flying to treatment, to family, or to a new home. We collect them from their bed, take them to the airport with time to spare, and stay with them until they are handed over for boarding.
How the flight and our stretcher fit together
Our stretcher travels with our crew, not on the flight. We meet your loved one with it when they land and take them the rest of the way. When they are leaving, we bring them to the airport on it and stay with them until they are settled for the flight.

On board, most people who can't walk far fly seated, with boarding assistance arranged through the airline. Travelling lying down on a plane is rare. It's only possible when the airline has specifically agreed to it in advance and set up the aircraft for it, and that is arranged directly with the airline.

A few things are worth sorting out with the airline before you book with us:

-
Let the airline know about your loved one's mobility needs. It should be noted on the booking, ideally at least 48 hours before the flight. Getting from the bed to the seat on the aircraft, and back again, is something we plan with you directly. Tell us what the airline has already arranged and we will take care of the rest.
-
Check whether a medical form is needed. Some airlines ask a doctor to confirm that a passenger recovering from illness or surgery is fit to fly.
-
Send us your flight details once they are confirmed. We will plan the rest around them.
If a travel insurer or a medical escort company is arranging the trip, they usually handle the airline side. Ask them to include Aurevia for the ground transfer and we will coordinate directly with them.
What we take care of at the airport
Airports are busy, large and built for people who can walk. For someone on a stretcher, every door, queue and long corridor matters. This is the part of the trip our crew is there to make easy.
Finding the way
Our crew is used to navigate to the terminals and moves your loved one by the most direct accessible route. You don't need to work out which door, which level or which lift.
Check-in and security
We help with check-in and stay with your loved one through security screening, along with the stretcher, medical equipment and luggage.
The right handover point
Depending on the airline and the airport, the handover can happen at the terminal or closer to the aircraft. We agree on the pick up/drop-off location with you and the airline in advance.
One point of coordination
We speak with the airline and airport teams ahead of the trip, so the people involved know who we are and when we are arriving. You won't have to pass messages back and forth.
Timed to the flight
We follow your flight's status and adjust when arrival times change. A late flight should never mean your loved one waits alone.
Luggage and personal equipment
Suitcases, a folded wheelchair or walker, and the bag your loved one wants close by all travel with us. Tell us what to expect when you book.
Airports are public places, so we look after dignity too. Your loved one stays covered and comfortable, and we keep time spent waiting in busy areas as short as we can.

Fly or drive?
If your loved one can't sit upright comfortably for a flight, plus the time at both airports, driving the whole way may be the kinder option. For trips within Ontario and to Montreal, our long-distance service takes them bed-to-bed, lying down the entire time, in one vehicle with planned stops along the way. There are no transfers between stretcher, wheelchair and aircraft seat.

For longer journeys across Canada or from abroad, flying usually makes sense, and we handle the ground part at this end.

Not sure which suits your situation? Tell us where your loved one is, where they need to be and how well they manage sitting, and we will give you an honest view of both options.
Who we help
Families bringing someone home after a hospital stay in another province or abroad, including travellers who fell ill or were injured while away.
People leaving for care or to be near family, who need to get from a hospital bed or home to their flight without the stress of doing it alone.
Travel insurers, medical escort and repatriation companies that need a dependable ground partner when their patient lands in Ontario.
How Airport Stretcher Transfers Work
-
Confirm the flight with the airline. Including any medical form it asks for, and a note of your loved one's mobility needs on the booking.
-
Send us a booking request. Include the flight details, the address at our end and anything we should know about your loved one. We follow up the same day with a confirmed price.
-
We plan and coordinate. We agree the handover point, timing and luggage with you, and coordinate with the airline and airport teams.
-
On the day. Our crew follows the flight, guides your loved one through the airport and handles the handover at the agreed point.
-
Settled at the other end. Arriving home, we bring your loved one to their bed and stay until they are settled. Departing, we stay until the airline has taken over their care.

How airport transfers are priced
An airport transfer involves more than the drive. Each one is planned ahead with you, coordinated with the airline and the airport, and includes time inside the terminal with your loved one. Because of that work, airport trips may include additional fees on top of the standard transfer price.
