Hospital Discharge Transportation

Toronto and GTA - Safe Stretcher Transfer
from Hospital to Home

Why Hospital Discharge Requires More Than a Car or Wheelchair Van ?

Medical clearance is ready. The bed is waiting at home. The missing piece is safe transport. We provide bed-to-bed stretcher transfer from hospital room to home — with two trained attendants, confirmed pickup windows, and full insurance.

After surgery, injury, or illness, sitting upright in a standard vehicle can cause:

  • Increased pain at incision sites

  • Difficulty breathing for cardiac or respiratory patients

  • Risk of falls during vehicle entry/exit

  • Positioning complications that extend recovery

Patients who remain flat or semi-reclined during transport report significantly less post-transfer pain and positioning complications.

Aurevia Structured Hospital Discharge System

This protocol is followed on every hospital discharge transfer — not "when we have time."

1

Booking & Confirmation

We confirm hospital unit, destination, mobility level, prescribed oxygen (if applicable), and preferred discharge window.

2

Facility Coordination

We confirm pickup location and discharge readiness window with the hospital unit.
This prevents hallway waiting and reduces discharge delays.

3

Crew Preparation

The assigned two-person crew prepares stretcher configuration, securement systems, and required mobility supports prior to arrival.

Preparation happens before bedside contact — not during.

4

Safe Transfer & Securement

Controlled bed-to-stretcher movement.
Full stretcher locking and vehicle anchoring.
Monitored positioning throughout transport.

5

Arrival & Handover Confirmation

Coordinated entry.
Controlled unloading.
Safe interior positioning.
Documented handover confirmation.

Pre-Scheduled Transfers — Discharge Delays Are Rare

We operate on a pre-scheduled model with bookings made at least 24 hours in advance.

Before any crew is dispatched, we call the person in charge to confirm the patient is actually ready. This means most discharge delays are caught early — before you or we incur waiting time.

Waiting time charges apply only in rare cases, where the discharge is significantly delayed after crew arrival.

If this happens, our dispatcher notifies you before any charge begins.

Worried About Arranging Transport?
Here’s What You Can Expect :

These are the most common questions people ask before booking — here’s how we take care of each one.

Safe, Professional Transport — Not Just a Van

“How do I know this is safe — not just a van with a stretcher?”

This is exactly why families choose Aurevia.

Every transfer is designed for safety, dignity, and control:

  • Two trained attendants on every trip

  • Proper lifting, positioning, and fall-prevention techniques

  • Stretcher-secured vehicle with certified locking systems

  • Fully insured operation with WSIB coverage

We specialize exclusively in non-emergency patient transport — this is not general passenger transportation.

Hospital Discharge Transport — Fully Coordinated

"I don't know how to arrange transport from a hospital"

You don’t need to manage the process yourself.

We coordinate directly with hospital staff to confirm discharge timing, mobility needs, and pickup logistics — ensuring everything is ready when it matters.

You won’t be chasing updates or navigating hospital procedures.
We take care of the details so nothing is missed.

Independent Pickup — No Family Required

“I can’t be there for pickup — or I’m arranging this alone”

That’s completely okay — and very common.

A family member does not need to be present. Our trained attendants coordinate directly with the facility and safely assist from bedside pickup to final destination.

Your loved one is never left unattended or unsure of what’s happening.

Not sure if your situation fits?

Tell us what you need — we’ll guide you through it step by step, with no pressure to book.

Every Discharge Transfer Includes Documented Handover

When a patient leaves a hospital, there is a legal and medical transfer of responsibility. Many transport services provide only a verbal "got them home." We provide a written record.

What our handover includes:

  • Pickup time from hospital room

  • Patient condition at pickup and arrival

  • Transfer Details

  • Arrival times

  • Name and signature of receiving adult

For families who cannot be at the hospital, this document provides peace of mind. For facilities, it provides discharge compliance.
